The Centre conducts high quality independent research that enables rational
decision making, leading to reductions in the human and economic losses from road crashes.
The Centre is focused on:
- Conducting multidisciplinary research to understand how road crashes
and the resulting injuries are caused;
- Proposing and evaluating ways to prevent crashes and injuries; and
- Providing independent professional advice on road safety matters to government
and non-government organisations in Australia and overseas.

New Director of CASR appointed |
The University of Adelaide has appointed a new director to lead CASR.
Professor Mary Lydon, an expert in road safety, traffic management and road design,
has more than 30 years experience in the field and is expected to build on
CASR's outstanding world wide reputation as a leader in automotive safety research.
Her appointment follows the retirement of CASR's founding director, Professor Jack McLean.
Professor Lydon has taken up her new role as of 31 March 2008.

Since 2000, CASR has been conducting the pedestrian sub-system tests for the
Australasian New Car Assessment Program. This program rates the pedestrian friendliness
of the front of vehicles.

The Centre for Automotive Safety Research receives core funding from both
the South Australian Motor Accident Commission and
the South Australian Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure.
